## How to play

Each side starts with 12 pieces on the dark squares. Black moves first. Pieces move one square diagonally forward. Capture by jumping over an opponent's piece into the empty square behind it — if a capture is available you must take it, and if your piece can keep jumping it must continue. A piece that reaches the far row is crowned a king and can then move and capture backwards too. You win when your opponent has no pieces left or no legal move.

## Controls

Tap or click one of your pieces, then tap the square to move to. For multiple jumps, tap each landing square or go straight to the final one. Keyboard: arrow keys move the cursor, Enter or Space selects, Esc cancels, U undoes.

## Tips

- Keep your back row filled as long as you can — it stops the opponent from getting kings.
- Control the centre squares; pieces on the edge have fewer moves.
- Since captures are forced, offer a piece on purpose to set up a double jump in return.
- When you are ahead, trade pieces: every even exchange makes your lead bigger.

### Which rules does this checkers game use?

Standard American checkers (English draughts): an 8×8 board, 12 pieces each, men move and capture forward only, captures are mandatory, and kings move one square in any diagonal direction.

### Do I have to capture?

Yes. If any of your pieces can jump, you must make a capture, and a jumping piece must keep jumping while it can. Pieces that can capture are highlighted.

### How strong is the computer?

Easy makes frequent mistakes, Medium looks a few moves ahead, and Hard searches deeply with alpha-beta minimax — it is a real challenge.
